Our Story

Morton Family Cellars is a small, family-run winery nestled in the heart of Apple Hill, Camino, California. What began as a shared love of wine has grown into something we're deeply proud of — a place where family, community, and honest winemaking come together.

Our winery proudly carries on the legacy of Andersonia, a beloved name in the Apple Hill wine community. Brandy, Andersonia's talented winemaker, remains closely involved in our winemaking process, ensuring that the quality and character you've come to love lives on in every bottle we produce.

Today, the winemaking is overseen by Greg and Kyle Morton, who bring the same hands-on dedication to every vintage. From pruning vines at Biama Vineyard to pouring glasses in our restored 1960s speakeasy tasting room, this is truly a family operation. We don't cut corners, we don't mass-produce, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Our Philosophy

Great wine doesn't need to be engineered — it needs to be respected. We believe the finest wines come from working with nature, not against it. Every bottle is a reflection of the El Dorado County land it came from, made with patience, intention, and an unwavering commitment to letting the grape express itself honestly.

Organically grown grapes on the vine at Apple Hill winery

Rooted in the Land

It starts with the soil. We nurture our vines through thoughtful organic practices — no synthetic chemicals, no shortcuts. Every vine is tended by hand, and each October we hand-harvest at peak ripeness. From crush to cellar, every step is guided by care and intention.

The majority of our fruit is estate-grown at Biama Vineyard, just steps from our tasting room. We never source from vineyards that use Roundup or harmful pesticides.

Wild fermentation process

Wild at Heart

We ferment exclusively with native yeasts — the wild cultures that live naturally on the grape skins in our vineyard. No commercial strains, no forced timelines. Each fermentation unfolds at its own pace, capturing the true character of the fruit and the terroir.

The result is wine with real depth, complexity, and a genuine sense of place that you simply can't replicate.

Minimal sulfite winemaking

Nothing to Hide

We use only minimal sulfites — just enough for stability, never enough to mask. No heavy-handed additives, no manipulation. We want you to taste the vineyard, the vintage, and the variety exactly as nature delivered them.

The result is honest, expressive wine that speaks for itself. Wine the way it was always meant to be. Explore our full wine list.
